What Time-Zone does WebStudy use?
WebStudy permits instructors to choose either a local default time or Eastern Standard time. Contact your WebStudy administrator to find out the default time for your college.
I specified an end date for a test, but it seems to be deactivated a day early. What is going on?
If the end date you specified does not include a time, then WebStudy will deactivate that item as of one second after midnight on the day you specified. For example, if you specified a test to be deactivated on October 15, it will be deactivated at one second after midnight on the 15th and will not be available for students the rest of that day. You should either always specify a time with the date or set the deactivation date for one day later than you actually intend.
You can create "teams" (or small groups) of students to work on a paper paper or project of some sort. Each team is given its own live chat room and forum for communication. Each team can then post its work in the team tab for you to see.
My student accidentally submitted the wrong paper with an assignment. How can that be corrected?
Briefly, you can send the assignment back to the student for re-working. If you've already graded the assignment then you will need to re-open it before you can send it back to the student. Once students have the assignment back, they can attach a new file and re-submit it.
You can view a Jing movie (about 5 minutes) that demonstrates this process.
Is there some way to change the order for the forums in my class?
There are two ways to accomplish this. First, the forums are always sorted alphabetically, so you can simply name them something that would sort properly; like "Forum 01: My Forum." The second method is that you can specify the order items appear in the timeline. This Jing (3:29) shows you how to do both.
How do I create distractors in a multiple-choice question?
Creating distractor is no more difficult than simply listing them. In this Jing (3:14) I show you how to add distractors to a multiple-choice question.
What is my email address in WebStudy?
The short answer is that you do not have an email address in WebStudy. The email available in WebStudy is "closed." That means that it doesn't communicate with any external email system; so no one could send you an email message from outside WebStudy. This Jing (1:42) explains the email system for you.
Is there some way to award partial credit on a test question?
You can very easily award partial credit for a test question. This Jing (2:17) shows you how to do that.
I want to make some of the tabs invisible to students and also re-order them. How can I manipulate the tabs?
Your course tabs are easy to manipulate. You can make the visible to students or hide them. You can also rearrange them if you want. This Jing (3:14) demonstrates how to work with your tabs.
I'm using ExamView from the publisher to create exams for my class. Is there any way to export them from ExamView into WebStudy?
Yes. This function is really rather simple. All you have to do is export your ExamView test as a Blackboard 5.x file and then import that file into WebStudy. This Jing (3:38) shows you the entire process.
I cannot see all of a student's posts as I grade my forum. Why not?
When you grade forums you may use the "Show Posts By" feature. If so, the default display setting is set to "20 posts per page." Unfortunately, if a student has posted toward the end of the posting period, and there are more than 20 posts in front of that student, those posts will not show up (even if you hit the next page button at the bottom of the page and request again to see all posts by the particular student). The easy way around this is to chose the "Show 100 posts per page" or "Show all posts". Then when you chose the "show posts by . . . ." button; WebStudy does, indeed, display all of your students' posts.
Is there some way to quickly scroll to the bottom of the edit page so I can click the "PostIt" button?
You may click the small, gray, downward-pointing arrows at the end of every edit area to quickly scroll to the bottom of the page. This Jing will show you how.
How can I select multiple items on a selection box in the editor?
Often you will want to select two or more items in a selection box; such as when you are selecting materials to display in a lesson. You can do that by holding down the Control key as you click the items. This Jing will demonstrate that skill.
Is there some way I can upload more than one document at a time into my course?
You can easily upload multiple documents if you use the WebStorium Authoring area. Watch this Jing to see how this is done.
How can I quickly find all assignments students have submitted without having to open every "Work2Do" area in every class I teach?
WebStudy provides an easy-to-use "My Assignments" area that lists all assignments you have to grade. I created a Jing to show you how "My Assignments" are used.
How do I add an image to a forum posting?
Within WebStudy, you add images to any text area (including forum posts) by using WebFiles. This Jing shows you how to use WebFiles.
What is an avatar and how do I create one?
An avatar is a small image used to stand for yourself. An avatar could be the image of an animal, a sporting event, or anything else that you choose. Your students will quickly learn to associate your avatar with you as you post comments to forums. This Jing shows you how to create an avatar.
